24 Hours
Choreographic Lab
24 Hours is a Brighton Dance Network initiative which provides an opportunity for local dancers to work with choreographers for twenty-four hours over a period of two months. Together they will research and develop a proposed idea and work toward a public sharing at the end of that period.

2016 - Masha Gurina

During these weeks, the participants worked on exploring new opportunities of partner work, taking inspiration from Argentine tango and some of its fundamental concepts (invitation to dance, leading and following, shifting through space, combining linear and circular movement, etc.). By doing this, they aimed to investigate a broader notion of 'connection' - and multiple ways to find it, develop it and perhaps lose it. They worked towards developing a piece loosely based on the subject of human encounters - things coming and going as people cross paths, develop fleeting or lasting relationships, and shift through life - alone, in pairs, or groups, at various speeds and different ideas of where they are going, which was performed at the Brighton Dance Network Scratch Night in November 2016.

2015 - Jason Keenan-Smith

Inspired by the 24-hour time frame Jason sought to challenge participants to embody and witness their own stories as they unravel in front of them. Participants were given the opportunity to participate in these dynamic and playful sessions, whilst exploring the choreographic possibilities of the own embodied narratives. A public presentation of work-in-progress took place in November 2015 as part of Brighton Dance Network Scratch event and was subsequently re-worked and performed at the network's Annual Showcase in July 2016.
